From Korea to Coomera: International Study Tours Return to Coomera Anglican College

12 August 2025

Over two weeks, the students, aged 12 to 15, immersed themselves in an authentic Australian educational experience, blending enriching English lessons with elective classes alongside local buddies, and taking part in cultural activities on the Gold Coast and within the College campus. From engaging in collaborative projects to sharing stories over lunchtime sport, the programme offered moments of connection that will be remembered long after the visit ends.

Deputy Principal, Dr Bek Duyckers, said the initiative was about much more than language development.

“Our International Short Term Study Tour Programme is designed to provide an enriching experience that builds cultural understanding, personal growth, and genuine friendships across borders through shared learning and lived experiences,” Dr Duyckers said.

The programme was coordinated by International Support Officer Ms Cheung and English Teacher Mrs Inglis, who worked closely to ensure every visiting student felt supported and inspired.

“Hosting the Yanguu Education students has been a rewarding opportunity to bring different cultures into our community and connect them with caring homestay families and vibrant campus life,”"

Ms Cheung said.

In the learning spaces, lessons were designed to be engaging, interactive and collaborative, encouraging students to practise English in real-life contexts.

“The buddy system has been especially powerful,” Mrs Inglis said. “It has helped the students quickly adapt and grow in confidence, not just academically, but socially too.”

For many, the highlights extended beyond the timetable. Students enjoyed local excursions that introduced them to Australia’s unique landscapes, wildlife, and lifestyle. Experiences that deepened their understanding of the culture and strengthened the bonds they were forming.

Dr Duyckers said the programme aligned strongly with the College’s vision and values.

“At Coomera Anglican College, we aim to nurture great humans - young people who are engaged, confident, curious, reflective, and empathetic. Welcoming international students into our community helps bring these values to life, preparing every student to be a global citizen who can thrive in our interconnected world.”

With the success of this first tour, Coomera Anglican College looks forward to welcoming more international groups, continuing our commitment to global learning and culturally inclusive education.
