Preparing for Adult Life

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 are beginning to plan for their future beyond school and can select subject areas of particular interest to maximise their future options for tertiary study or employment.

The Senior Secondary Campus caters for the interests and passions of all our students and allows them to concentrate on achieving their best during their final years of secondary education. It also fosters excellence in an environment that assists students to become independent learners who are able to achieve their goals, with a focus on a positive future.

The highly qualified teaching staff have developed the academic programme in line with the National Curriculum. In addition to the core subjects of English, Humanities, Mathematics, Religious and Values Education and Science, Year Ten students are offered a wide variety of specialist subjects in Key Learning Areas such as Physical Education, the Arts, Technology, Design, Languages, and Business, enabling students to make well informed decisions regarding their future pathways.

Career Pathways

While the majority of our students aspire to enter University, great careers don’t always begin at University level. In the senior years of schooling students are able to undertake a variety of pathways, depending on their career aspirations. The flexibility in the curriculum caters for the individual, allowing students to undertake outside learning opportunities whilst still at school if so desired. This can be integrated into a simultaneous work placement, traineeship or apprenticeship. The College staff actively support the individual needs of every child to ensure they are well prepared for their future. A very high percentage of students obtain first round offers to tertiary institutions and our graduates are often accepted into high level courses which require exceptional folios or auditions. The College recognises that students must be prepared for a future in a technological work environment with an increasing degree of career mobility. In order to aid this development, we believe it is essential to promote a secure and friendly learning environment where students are encouraged to maximise their potential. Students are supported as they explore different pathways and their achievements are celebrated. This results in students achieving strong academic results and possessing the ability and confidence to operate in a rapidly changing global environment.

Pastoral Care

In the senior years at Coomera Anglican College students are assigned to a Pastoral Care class comprised of students from their House (Gibbs, Smith, Morris, Lane) - at their year level. Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 are confronted with much change in their lives. For this reason, students participate in a Personal Development Programme designed to develop skills, knowledge, attitudes and understandings that enable students to value and lead healthy lifestyles and to develop as responsible global citizens. This programme focuses on key personal development skills such as Mindfulness, Wellbeing, Study Skills, Career Planning, Sexual Health, Drug Education, Cyber Safety and so on. In addition, leadership opportunities together with opportunities to be involved in an exciting cocurricular programme, ensure that Coomera Anglican College students are well-supported and well-prepared to move out into the wider world.
