From the Head of Primary - Week 8, Term 2 2018

Instrumental Musical Concerts

The Term 2 Instrumental Mini Music Concerts attracted a wonderful response from our College community.  Over the course of the past two weeks, our instrumental students have had an opportunity to perform in front of appreciative and supportive audiences, and this year’s series of concerts once again highlighted the amazing composure, self-assurance and aptitude that our students possess. Anyone who has had the privilege of attending these concerts, would agree that our musical future is in excellent hands.
I thank all of the students who performed as well as the many instrumental tutors who have coordinated these concerts.
Well done, everyone!

Start Smart Programme – Financial Literacy

This week, the students from Years 1 – 6 all took part in the Financial Literacy Programme presented by staff from the Commonwealth Bank.  Research suggests it is never too early to learn money management skills and it is never too late to start learning.  Start Smart teaches students about financial literacy, empowering them to make wise financial decisions for themselves.  The programme consists of workshops and lessons that allow students to gain skills in financial decision making. The workshops are engaging as well as educational and they feature characters such as Captain Super Cents and Coach Cash, both of whom represent all the temptations to spend money needlessly.

The Primary Start Smart Financial Literacy Programme includes topics such as:

  • The History of Money
  • Electronic Money/Transactions
  • Needs & Wants
  • Goods & Services
  • Comparative Shopping
  • Personal Budgets
  • Saving & Compound Interest
