Half A Ton and Then Some!
2014 graduate, and Powerlifting extraordinaire, Ben Senden recently achieved his dream of representing Australia in Powerlifting at the 2015 Asian/Oceania Powerlifting Championships. The competition, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in December, saw Ben competing in the 83kg Sub-Junior (18 years and under) Class. Powerlifting is comprised of three events – Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift, with results combined to give a Powerlifting total. Ben achieved an incredible total of 623kg Powerlifting (Squat 225kg, Bench Press 137.5kg and Deadlift 260kg), which resulted in 4 Gold Medals, 2 Australian Records, and 1 World Record in his age and weight division. With his immense dedication to training and passion for his sport, Ben well and truly deserved this remarkable championship result ... congratulations!
Ben is currently working as an Assistant Swim Coach at the College’s Aquatic Centre. Over the next year or two, he is aiming to coach a number of swimmers to qualify and compete at State Championships, and to further develop the College’s swimming programme. He is also looking forward to commencing at Griffith Uni this year to study Sports Development.
